A former Ponca City teacher is charged with second-degree rape
after prosecutors said she had a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old former student.
Ashley Renee Flores, 26, resigned in July
after teaching for three years at East Junior High.
Police said she engaged in sexual activity with the 14-year-old
at least six times over the summer.
Ponca City police said she gave the boy her cell phone number
and they started to communicate with each other in early July.
"We have a lot of great teachers in the district who do a great job every day,"
said Ponca City superintendent David Pennington."
"This hurts the reputation of all of us and it saddens us."
Pennington said he was not aware of the investigation
until after Flores handed in her resignation.
Flores is also accused of contributing to the delinquency of a minor.
According to the court affidavit,
Flores admitted having sex with the boy in her home while her children were there.
